Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how TripMate (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the TripMate iOS app and this website. Effective date: 15 July 2026.
This page is informational and is not legal advice.
Overview
TripMate has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no analytics or advertising active in v1.0. Data is stored on your iPhone only. We do not operate a server that stores your data.
Information we do not collect
TripMate v1.0 does not use accounts, sign-in, analytics SDKs, or active advertising SDKs. We cannot see your trips, searches, or location.
Information stored on your device
The following data is stored locally on your iPhone:
- Saved trips
- Trip history and statistics
- Preferences (appearance, units, nap alarm settings)
- Cached timetables and routes
- Your optional display name
Location
TripMate requests location access in the When In Use mode. Location is used to centre the map and find your nearest station on-device.
Your coordinates are not transmitted to TripMate. Trip requests to TfNSW use bundled station coordinates, not your device position. You can deny or later revoke location permission in iOS Settings; some features that depend on your position may then be limited.
Transit data (Transport for NSW)
TripMate calls Transport for NSW Open Data APIs (api.transport.nsw.gov.au) for trip plans, live departures, and car-park occupancy. Requests contain station identifiers and travel times, not your name or device location.
How TfNSW processes requests is governed by Transport for NSW's own terms and privacy practices for Open Data.
Maps
Maps in TripMate use Apple MapKit. Map display and related Apple services are subject to Apple's privacy policy and terms.
Notifications
TripMate uses local notifications only for the nap sleep alarm backup. Notifications are generated and delivered by iOS; nothing is sent to a server.
Your controls
In TripMate → Settings → Data → Delete User Data you can remove all saved trips, history, preferences, and cached routes from your device.
You can manage location and notification permissions in iOS Settings at any time. Uninstalling TripMate removes all local data from that device. No cloud deletion request is needed.
Children
TripMate is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through voluntary support contact, email us and we will take appropriate steps.
Retention
On-device TripMate data remains on your iPhone until you delete it in Settings, clear it by other means on the device, or uninstall the app. We hold no copy. Support emails we receive are kept only as long as needed to respond and operate support.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if a future version introduces accounts or advertising. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of TripMate after an update means you accept the revised policy.
